Chosen charity for 2009

The PGP’s Charity for 2009 is

Clatterbridge Cancer Research(CCR).

The charity was formerly known as the Clatterbridge Cancer Research Trust.  It’s purpose is to fund and carry out research into the causes of, and treatment for, a variety of types of cancer.  It is presently operating from buildings that are part of the Clatterbridge Oncology Centre one of Britain’s finest treatment centres for cancer.

They cost of such research are enormous and a high percentage of the CCR’s needs are met by donations.  This work is performed for CCR by the enthusiastic Kate Karmy.  Our contribution however large or small will be appreciated but obviously the larger the better.

A short presentation booklet about cancer is available at the Parkview please ask.  In January the Provincial Grand Lodge was privileged to hear a brief talk by Dr. Ross Sibson of CCR. He gave a valuable insight in to the work of the organisation and the research process itself.  One path may very well be a blind alley but a side shoot can provide a solution to an unexpected cancer such at the proton stream treatment for retinal tumour in eye cancer.

CCR has plans to improve the ratio of funds spent on actual research as opposed to administration cost of equipment etc. by means of a merger with the other great local cancer research facility at The University of Liverpool Hospital.

You will fine key-rings and badges for sale through the Buffs Lodges or on the bar they cost £1.00 each.  You need never be without that Christmas feel with a lapel badge or without a supermarket trolley with the pound coin sized key ring tag. Don’t miss out.

The first of PGP Bro. Maurice Dow-Robertson’s fund raising evenings was held on 14 March and he has planned 3 more throughout the year all for your entertainment so you do not notice the pain of giving to this most worthy cause.
